The Epson Direct to Garment Printer or DTG Printer as the name suggests allows you to directly print customized designs on cotton garments such as T-Shirts, Hoodies, Bags and Baby Clothes. With faster, superior quality printing you will be able to offer your clients vibrant, high quality images and vivid colours.
For the entry model, we have the Epson SureColor SC-F2100 pictured below. It is a 5 color model which offers a print resolution of 1,440 x 1,440dpi. The ink tanks come in 600ml sizes offering increased productivity and a low cost per print. The unit has 512MB Ram and Ethernet Network as well as USB 2.0 connectivity. The max printable area of this device is 406 x 508mm. The printer’s dimensions are 985 x 1,425 x 490mm (W x D x H) and it weighs 80kg.
As this is a production machine, we recommend that clients have a print volume of at least 200 T-Shirts per month and use it on a daily or at least weekly basis. Due to DTG technology, this is not the kind of machine that can be switched on once a month for a few prints and then turned off again. It requires regular use and proper maintenance for optimal performance.
For our clients who are new to the industry, I would like to quickly go over the the Printing Process which is quite simple and consists of the following steps:
1- Apply pre-treatment liquid to the garment on the “print” area you require
2- Place a piece of silicon parchment paper on the garment, then place it under the Heat Press at 165 ºC for about 45 seconds
3- Place the garment in the DTG printer to print your design. This will take anywhere from 30 sec to 2 min depending on the design.
4- Use the Heat Press at 165 ºC and silicon parchment paper once more to fix the ink onto the garment. This step will take about 30 seconds for each layer of ink used and then you’re done.

Coming to the Epson SureColor F3000, this is an Industrial DTG Printer designed for high production volumes. The model comes with 5 colour inks: Black, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Crack Resistant White. It has 2 printheads allowing you to print in White and CMYK inks all at once. Print resolution is 1,200 x 1,200dpi. An important feature of this device is the bulk ink system which uses 1.5 Liter ink pouches for very high productivity and a very low cost per print. Auto Gap Adjustment allows you to print on garments up to 29.5mm thick. The max printable area of this device is 406 x 508mm. The printer’s dimensions are 1,712 x 1,809 x 1,336mm (W x D x H) and it weighs 330kg.

The technology used in Direct to Garment Printers is designed to work with cotton. If you would like to print on Polyester, we recommend that you have a look at the Epson Dye Sublimation Printer which is much better suited for that material.
